Anyone got any pics of one fitted? where the piping goes and how? seen one with the bonnet off, thats cheating :lol: and i gonna need one for better power, mine is seated in a terrible place :(

why fmic if you have a chance to upgrade your original air-to-air intercooler to a water-to-air one?

the AIT is below 36 degrees celcius even at summer time and no disadvantages of fmic like turbo lag.

i am using a legacy turbo electric motor to circulate the water from a 1,5 liter radiator located in front of the a/c condenser.

i am thinking to make such a modification for my Q4 too. I will pull out the stock intercooler and install a water-to-air intercooler to it and will choose a way very similar to 75; shortest way from turbo to intake plenum.

Did you manage to get the modifications done to the original inter-cooler with the inlet runners still in place or did you need to cut them off first?
And what radiator did you use?

Looks a nice mod by the way. Anything else done to the motor?

It's just the original intercooler. I have modified it to work with water instead of air. I have welded covers to keep water between the cooling blades to cool the air more efficient. I opened a hole for cover, a hole for water inlet and a hole for water outlet.
I used a little random radiator mounted in from of the A/C condenser.

My AIT -never- exceeds 32 degree Celcius.

The engine is completely stock with the internals but changed the engine management from outdated motronic to megasquirt and it is giving 150 BHP with 0,3 Bar boost and fuel consumption is far less than the original motronic system...

As I mentioned above I am planning to make some modifications to prevent turbo lag and lower the AIT for my Q4. I am still thinking...

I plan to place a water radiator to the original intercooler's place and replace the metal intake pipe with a "pipe type" intercooler and take the air directly from turbo instead of the original intercooler and shorten the way and the decrease the volume of the of the air needed to produce needed boost in the system. Also this modification can lower the air intake temperature as in my 75 Turbo.

Cheers for the extra pics, for some reason the basic ic looks a little different from mine. But it does look as though you can do the welding without too much trouble.

The IC should be the same, mine has modifications on it that's all.

Just had another check of mine, and yes it is identical, its just that mine still has some sensors attached to it.

Thinking about how to weld the extra box onto the intercooler to create the chargecooler, it should be possible if you weld the plate closest to the inlet runners first from the inside, as I don't think there is enough room to weld it from the outside.

mine is just welded. I am not sure but maybe an epoxy-like component based adhesive can be used too.
