how often do you change your engine oil?

yesterday, I went to the mechanic to change them , after almost 3000 Km {and 6 months}, and he told me to keep them for another 2000 km at least. BTW, I use selenia racing.

What's your experience?

I change it at around 7000-8000km or once a year at least.

I use castrol RS formula, from now EDGE...but never selenia racing.I tried a little test with selenia.I had agip sint 2000 in the engine and i went for a hard drive then i watched the pressure on a very warm engine.Then i also tried in the same way(approx. same temperature outside,driving style jada jada) with selenia racing and there was almost 1 BAR less then agip sint 2000 also the engine ran very hard with selenia.

I change the oil every 5k km in Q4. As per service manual, you should change it every 10k km or once a year in a Q4.

Oil in a forced induction engine is working really hard. It’s better not to save on that. Every time I changed the oil in forced induction engine (Q4 and ex S13), it looked really tired after 5k km. But I drive quite hard.

I would recommend to watch for the OIL temperature while driving hard in the first place.

I'm thinking to keep them for another 2000 Km as temp does not go too high {during summer time}.

Oil changes:
Sooner rather than later, skimp here and you or the next owner will regret it, It is false economy.

The length of time depends on how hard it is driven, quality and grade of oil used etc.

The information in the manual will be some 10 years out of date, things have come on a bit since then.....

Who are you trying to kid with the observation that it does not get hot in Greece in summer???

Why do you think I was talking about ambient temp?
Mindbus was talking about oil temp and I was answering to him. It's the oil temp that "does not go too high {during summer time}". I've spent quite a lot of time to convert more fresh air both to the oil cooler and the intercooler, not only by removing the fog lamps, and I have not any problems with temp levels. From the other hand I use a low boost map-bin {0,67 max boost} during day time when amb temp is high and higher boost maps during night time and low ambient temps.

And I'm not going to concern about a "next owner" for it won't be any one.

Sorry, you never said exactly what you were talking about or who to....

Is the Selenia Racing fully synthetic 10/60? I seem to remember so, It is good oil and I would say that 5000Km is fine. Another way to tell is how dark the oil is....

High ambient temps are something we don't have much trouble with over here, too much water maybe....

I run 5000km!
Change oil and filter.
I use Castrol TWS.

Finally I found the Alfa's 'easy reference guide' of mine and they suggest Selenia Racing 10W/60 'for decidelly sportive use of the car wholly Selenia synthetic racing 10W/60 motor oil is recommended'.
And 'when mileage is low, they {engine oil and oil filter} should be changed at least once a year.'

As for the mileage, Selenia's 'Advice on use' is :
5000 Km for competition use
10000 Km on cars with turbo-charged engines

So, I'll stay at 1year / 5000Km.

I recommend you to change type of oil.Becouse selenia racing is an old type of oil as are the instructions in the manual.Selenia racing is not competitive enough with other newer oils .

Selenia racing has not even the ACEA or API rating so it means that it was not even tested.

no racing oil will have an API rating, they use (too much) additives that are not allowed by API for environmental reasons...
