Hello people,

most map sensors are linear ,

If you know max vacuum volt value and max pressure volt value ,
than input this values excel "curve fitting" formula ,

excel give us linear formula ,

here is the our PRT06 map sensor`s formula ,
Bar= (0,5111*volt) + 0,0722

for example ,
if the prt06 out is 1.820 volt ,
(this is the sea level value)
Pressure is 1.002 BAR ..

if out is 4.750 volt,
pressure is 2.5 bar

if you understand pic programmer ,
you can make yourself a lcd boost display ..

maybe later, I can make a lcd display program for you ..

Some nice info, thanks for sharing.
So what you are saying is that you can make a digital boost guage by using the voltage signal from the MAP sensor rather than using boost pressure?

@Evodelta ,
Yes ..
like this

It's very clever and I like it, but I have to ask why? Why not just a digital guage with a boost line feed?

because its not commercial ,

I have another commercial solution,
but I must ask to @steve before demo here.
afr,egt,duty,boost,rpm,tps,volt

like this:

and some fantastic video record from my Q4

Seems a very long post before we get to the heart of the matter.....

A very useful gadget though, as you probably know you can get these for Fiat 16vt Coupes. How much ????

Thanks gery38 for posting those pdf's of the Q4 sensors.. I am sure that it will save me hours of hunting on the net for them.

maxiboost.. I am using a similar system to display AFR - it is called the O-meter - its a general purpose digital display that could be connected to a sensor or to a datalogger (thats what I do).. However the O-meter can only display the output from a single sensor at any one time.

I am interested in your solution too :)

Can you tell me specifically what type / brand of EGT sensor you are using - and where it is plumbed into the exhaust?

thanks, Jimn~

Hello ,

You know I`m a Q4 owner like you ,
several years ago ,
when I only turbo boost rise up and drive my car ,
When no any wideband and no any egt display !

one time Im use very bad quality fuel ,
than 10 minutes later engine broken ...

one time car fuel pump`s pressure going low ,
engine broken ...

its like joke ,isnt it ?

Than I understand what I need .
Im last two years working on this electronic car displays .

I know ,who car users need what type display?.

-We must read all info same time on the display !
separete boost display ,afr display ,egt display are no good !

-When we race or fast car use ,we never watch the display !
than Im add alarm function ,max egt ,max rpm ,max boost etc
with high power led and high loud buzzer !

-We can record all infos same time to our notebooks. (logging function)

Im sell here (Turkey) many display for all brand car .

its NOT work with ecu diagnostic port ,
its work with direct sensor connection ,

for example ,
innovate LC-1 lambda out ,(AFR ) (compatible to plx, zeitronix, etc)
EGT sensor (a digital egt circuit include)
Map sensor (impreza map sensor or our Q4 sensor etc )
Duty signal from enjectors
Rpm signal from ecu out ,
Volt or water temp sensor if have
Throttle position sensor from ecu in

http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1183/menu2xn4.jpg

http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/3862/menu3lz8.jpg

http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/9528/menu1nx5.jpg

Also I have add "engine lean alarm function"
if rpm >4000
if duty >%50
if tps >80
we are race on the road ..
than if the afr >16 (its lean)
all the leds on and alarm sound on ..

Also Im add a duty out port ,
for water injection or nos out port ,
what you want its active after the duty value ,
in setup you change duty value

I have a user manual but its turkish ,
I cant post it ..

I add a ECON sign on lcd display ,
when the car cut-off mode (injectors off)
light econ on the lcd ,

I can log all data to excell .
it is a serial out port .

Im working on some other project too ,
for example knock monitor ,
Now Im use it on my car but it`s prototype ,
my lcd show me knock also ,
its work from our knock sensor,
it is same time FM radio out !
Im listen knock signal my cars radio :)

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/8591/knockfmdi3.jpg

for example squential shift light ,
its nine high power led,
and we give seperate rpm value each led!

for other example ,
4x egt with 4x lcd ! (four 2x8 lcd )
this project I make my friend ,
He is starting at least 800 HP subaru impreza project
They are tune engine my egt displays

http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/7082/kutu2no7.jpg

other impreza gc8,
he is use zeitronix wideband and egt ,
and he is connect lcd on the dashboard, its look like original.

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/9282/fotoraf0064ka4.jpg

blue screen.
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/5212/test2dd3.jpg

so ,

@Evodelta ,
I know @barnacle`s fiat coupe display solution ,
its work on fiat-alfa diagnostic interface port ,
its compact ,just connect interface port and give power ,
but mine seperate direct sensors input ,so you can use it many different cars ,
and mine display have AFR ,EGT input. (EGT circuit include)
logging function ,alarm functions, out etc .

Price is :
Im sell it in turkey 350 YTL .
350 ytl is ;
~145 pound
~185?
~290$

@jimnielsen ,
All the car egt sersor is
TYPE K thermocouple ,
You can use any brand good quality EGT sensor ,
Im connect egt probe ,very close engine ,
before the turbo ,on the ext manifold .

You can watch old videos here if you want ,

jimnielsen

This is where my egt probe is(picture). At first it was also in the exhaust manifold but i switched position for safety reasons(on the downpipe ...you can see a "cable" from it on the picture").

A guy i know had a EGT probe also on the E.manifold and one day the probe brake and a piece was sucked right into the turbo...guess what happend with it ? :)

Would it take much for you to make this so it will plug into the ECU diagnostic port? I think if it was 'plug n play' then lots more would be interested.

if you ask barnacle`s display ,
he generate it for his fiat coupe ,
than sell more people ,

I think ,
fiat coupe`s ecu like our ecu ,
but not same !
maybe his display work on 155 Q4 ?

please ask barnacle ,for more .

He was going to test it on my car the other day at the Coupe meeting but I had to leave early so didnt get a chance  Will try again when I see him again.

The Barnacle website gives hope... "At the moment, the device can only speak to the Fiat Coupe 16V NA or 16VT, or its close relatives (some Lancias and Alfas)."

That's no good to me, I've been barred.

That's no good to me, I've been barred.

What did you do?:tapedshut:

The latest Mk IV Barnacle Widget is now available for sale. It features the same functionality as previous versions - see the FAQ here: - and offers USB connection to a laptop and an improved display screen resolution. It works on 16v NA (not 1.8 versions), 16vT, 20v NA (not VIS engines), and 20vT.

It's fitted to a carbon fibre mounting plate to replace the right-hand side air vent - see here, look towards the bottom of the page - for pictures. If you have a left-hand drive vehicle, the plate is easily modified for the slightly differently shaped cut-out in the fascia.

There are three choices of display colour: - note that on all these, the image will be black(ish) on the LED colour and in daylight they'll all look pretty much black and white because of reflected daylight. In the dark, they'll show the LED colour.

1) Blue/Black: http://img-europe.electrocomponents.com/largeimages/R5327079-99.jpg

2) Green/Black: http://img-europe.electrocomponents.com/largeimages/R5327085-99.jpg

3) White/Black: http://img-europe.electrocomponents.com/largeimages/R5327063-99.jpg

At the moment I can't supply nice boxes for external mounting but if you want to provide your own case I'm happy to provide the unit without the fascia plate at a slight discount.

The price is UKP ?130, including postage to the UK or Europe; for further afield, postage is negotiable. Supplied without a mounting plate, UKP ?120. I can take either a personal sterling cheque (PM me for the name and address), or (preferable) paypal to nailed_barnacle@hotmail.com

If you want one, please indicate below or PM me. I need:
- your name (so I can write it on the envelope) and address
- your engine type (so I can set it correctly before sending it)
- your choice of display (see the FAQ; if you don't specify, you'll get the default choice of revs, air pressure/flow, air and water temperature)
- left or right hand drive (so I can supply a longer cable for left hand drive - default is for right hand drive)
- your choice of display colour (recommended and default is green as it has the highest contrast ratio)
- the money... :D

The widgets will be built, programmed, tested, and despatched in order of payment received. They're guaranteed to the original purchaser for a year but you'll need to sort out the postage both ways. And as an added bonus, for every widget sold, a fiver goes to the club to help its plans for the future.

Legal bit: this offer is from me, Neil Barnes, and the FCCUK does not in any way endorse the widget. The FCCUK has kindly permitted me to use their logo as the initialisation display. You install this device at your own risk - in particular, pay attention to the need for a fused supply to protect your car and its wiring in the case of a fault - and I accept no responsibility for any consequential loss, however caused, other than the replacement cost of the widget.

Neil

Thanks!

The reason I'm barred:

A couple of months ago there was a program on TV about some men which had, er, unnatural relationships with their cars, a thread on the forum was formed which discussed it. My humour being what it is I thought it would be humorous to post a link to a pic of a young man in stockings with his appendage inside a Range-Rover tailpipe, what made the pic most funny (imo) was that the fella seemed most proud at what he was being photographed doing.
The rather stuck up bullying moderators thought it somewhat less than hilarious and demanded I grovel to be let back on, my thoughts were that on balance I was spending too much time reading something which I got very little from and I would be encouraged to do more useful things if I didn't have that distraction.........

Sorry for the thread diversion....

Anyways, back on topic....
