Discussed these on 155org, only aspect stopping me buying one is that they are not tried and tested...but can't complain about the price!

Well at least if we get first hand report on how they perform last etc, it might persuade others to take th eplunge. The price is good

38mm tubing (ext) with 3mm wall thickness, so the interior diameter is 32mm... is that enough?

True...but the vendor says there won't be another batch, we'll see...

I ordered one also.

Mostly because my fitted one has a little crack and the other option is this one:

http://www.madeno.nl/parts/Image-079l.jpg

Wich would cost 1332 euro.....
And i will also have to get the car to the workplace to get the D2 suspension fitted. So they have it over there anyway.

Lets wait and see.

Not really, if a product which someone has bought falls apart it usually gets swept under the carpet, no-one likes to mention they've bought a load of rubbish.

If 6 months down the line it does crack you won't get to know about it and any Ebay vendor won't want to know either.

Well if i get cought with my pants down on this one, i won't be afraid to let you all get the dirty total view.:deal:

So rest assured, information will be coming to a theatre near you in the not so distant future.

Not sure yet if it will be good or i am about to pay 500 euro for some shiny bits.

Jan,

You should have ordered it through H?rmann motorsport....
This way you would get the exactky the same manifold and you save almost ?200,-

I looked at the shine manifold on the bay, but I have some doubts there.... So in the future if it still is available, I'll order one in Germany.

Marc, take a slow breath and please re-read my previous post.
I did not order from madeno!
Which i find not very nice looking to be honest.

I ordered the shiny one from ebay.
Wich i think would do for me. But i am thinking about doing a before and after rolling road test. So everybody will know for sure(Rica, wateringen.)

The h?rmann is also 1166,20 euro so if this one is close to these it is a bargain at less than 500 euro.

I don't need very big improvements as my Q4 is the family-car. But if the turbo goes on steam a little lower in the rev-range that would be nice.

im running a tubular on mine, really nice piece of kit, and cost ?750 from a well know italian tuner bout 3 years ago. but after running it for bout a year i decided to get it ceramic coated and get the external wastegate added. but once off it was riddle with cracks where all 4 pipes join.

think the prob is that unless its quality made then it will crack, but being quality made your looking at paying a hell of alot.

im tempted to get one of these ebay ones for my next project, if it cracks it cracks, will only make it sound a bit like a tank lol

I got the manifold yesterday. It looks good.
I will have the garagepeople have a look at it. And let them order parts if needed. Plus pick a date for the fitting.

First thing to do is now to make an appointment for a rollingroad test with the old one on.

Progress will be posted here.

Today got the car measured for the baseline.
I got a little scared at the start as it was only making 190hp...

But it drove alright to the rollingroad, turned out to be a loose connection to the boost presssure gauge, wich caused the car to top of at +.5 bar of boost.

It does not totaly reach the 235 hp squadra claimes, but it stays so long at 230hp that i couldn't care less.

And it was the 7th or 8th time we finaly discovered the problem so the intercooler probably was pretty hot already.

Any update on the new manifold yet?

I see someone is now selling the same one for less:

Today i took a look at the car in the shop.
The old manifold had a growing crack in it. And there was some leaking at the gasket.
But more alarming the rubber hose behind the old manifold had almost melted to bits. If i drove it any longer that one would heave failed for sure. (Would have lost some oil if that would happen...)

And as always with my car some bold or nut has to be drilled out.

Next week all will be fine, has been promised to me. As i have something else to drive and i am borowing an 1.9jtd 156sw i am also in no big hurry.

And tio be save i bought a secondhand turbo+manifold from somebody else as extra spares. (wich should arive next week.)

When things are ready i will let you guys know okay.

That's the only thing that put me off the other one....only seven days to return.

Evodelta

The original vendor has responded by lowering to ?250, it doesn't matter who you buy from it's the same one and neither offer much in the way of guarantee - BF don't even mention it. I don't think anyone will guarantee a tubular manifold for a year. Will they?

Inconclusive for Q4Jan's engine, but if it's significantly better this will still show. All of you Q4 owners have a pretty good seat-of-the-pants feel for lag, and if the manifold produces more HP this should be apparent aswell... Squadra quoted 235 Bhp for the Q4 with squadra chip, Q4jan's reached 230 bhp on the cracked standard manifold.. this could explain the 5 bhp difference...

It would be nice to know what other parts aren't standard now though, like air filter mods or exhaust mods, to form a better impression

He's doing it to spite the dealer who has gone around him and sold out to another company as it was Paul that designed it, basically if he floods the market then less people will buy elsewhere. It still favours the dealer and the manufacturer though.

And you guys of course.

Please note, this is nothing to do with me, I'm just passing on the info.
Remember they are still untested and you still have to factor in the possibility of a fair bit of work if it needs changing (again). That said, at this price it is possibly worth a punt, I doubt you will ever get one this cheap!

To quote Paul:

" due to the fact I was undercut on the manifolds I was selling I decided to call it a day and just sell off the last 4 i had in stock for ?250 each, to my surprise they sold within a few hours and I also had quite a few e mails from people just missing out..

So I've thought about it and although my mark up will be considerably less it could still be worth importing another batch if I know they will be sold....

?235

Europe P&P ?60

UK P&P ?18

No Paypal.

I would be happier if this was all done with either cash or cheque because if people pay with paypal i'll have to pay fees...

Once I have 10 deposits of ?50 I'll place the order. Must be worth having even if only for a spare.

Send a cheque to;

Contact him Via his Ebay ad, anyone saved it? It's probably in this thread somewhere. Don't forget to ask for his post code.

Stuntz: At this price you are going to have to do something special if you are making your own.....
What this manifold lacks is:

Equal length pipes.

A proper merge collector.

Any provision for movement on expansion (which prevents cracking).

wrinx
15-06-08, 10:50
The one aspect which put me off buying was the lack of road testing, or knowledge of the product.

If it cracks six months down the line I'd be a little annoyed :)

But as the price has tumbled....mmm!

Today i heared the inlet camshaft also needs replacing. So comparing the to come measurement with the old one will be an even bigger no-no.

I hope the car will be ready by 26-6 as it is needed for a magazineshooting.

Q4Jan
28-06-08, 03:56
The car was "ready" for the shoot. (Dutch car magazine GTO wich looks like a dutch "EVO". Is made once every two months so should be in the magazine before the end of the year.)

Shoot was with an E30 M3 cecotto and a 190 EVO II. And the place was Circuit Zandvoort. The story will be about the roadversions from the dtm cars of the 90's.

Problem was that we fixed some plumming with not really original pipes. So if boost goes above +.8 bar i get shaking acceleration and waring lights on the dash.

Would have loved to overtake those two cars on the straight but not fast enough this time. (Q4 is also very understeered on racetrack, as i knew already, but not nice to be remembered. :tapedshut:)

I now will probable wait for the suspension(wich looks underway  ) to arrive and have them take a good look at the whole car and fix everthing that was hasted this time.

Sorry for the delay, but as with Q4's sometime things take just a little bit longer.

Q4Jan
16-07-08, 02:43
I would heave loved to show some nice rollingroad graphs....

But......

Today i tried to pick up the car from the workshop. (I guess for the 4th time....)

The D2 suspension was fittted. Back and front as close to original height as possible.
And i asked them to start with putting the stiffness on 5. (6 be-ing the softest.)
I drove a little bit with that around but moved the fronts to 4 later, as they are easy to change, the back is not easy to change.
I was positively impressed.
Much smoother ride than on the old yellow koni's. And seemed better in the corners. The car seems to roll less and drive smoother.
Although i did not drive much, as the engine is not running properly.

The Exhaust manifold is in place, the inlet camshaft was replaced.
And the oil-return pipe from the engine got a good replacement.

Still i get on/off acceleration when using throttle.
(Hick ups, bumping, nocking sensor cutting in.)

So i had them put the car on the examinator and it showed very lean when using the throttle.

So now they will check for fuel pressure and the injectors.

Hope to be driving soon....... But everything seems to brake down at once...

Tired of the 145 1.6 i have as a borrow-car at the moment.

(though the S2000 works wonders when i drive alone.)

Q4Jan
21-08-08, 14:39
Everything fitted and running okay.
Throttle response feels better and the car pulls more in the higher revs.

http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/2965/q4ricasmallqk2.jpg

But comparing to the older run is not totaly fair.

I had:
- Crack in old outlet manifold
- Oxidated spark-cables
- One notch from a inlet camshaft had goten lower, so replaced it.

I did expect the car to have more torque in the lower revs, but i am very happy with the nice curve i got.

And a quick and dirty comparison between my two graphs.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/8061/q4oldnewku6.jpg

I got the numbers from the graphs. So i could have made some small errors. (1-3 pk) But the general idea should be clear.

Q4Jan
28-02-10, 15:43
After that last run i had the car on the rollers again:

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6106/99289963.jpg

But the graph was wobbly at higher revs.
Wich turned out to be two relais who were about to stop working.

Yesterday car ran great on (another set of) rolls :

http://i46.tinypic.com/23h8txs.gif

252hp/ 399Nm

There were 2 147GTA's wich had 240hp and 242 hp.

I got a little les power on 5500 as expected, probably because the intercooler hadn't enough time to cool.

Second measurement is in steps of 500rpm, as it was not an acceleration setup, but one wich measures the braking needed to keep the rolls on a fixed speed.

So the ebay manifold sure don't hurt the numbers you get.

jimnielsen
28-02-10, 19:42
Q4Jan - Those are pretty solid numbers. can you summarize the mods that you have made to you car? Thats 252 Hp at the wheels - right?

jim ~

Q4Jan
28-02-10, 21:39
No Jim, i wish!

252hp at the crank.

Most rolling roads convert the wheel numbers to crank figures to make it comparable. Power to the wheels is un-usable between rolling roads.

mods:

- Squadra chip
- ebay manifold
- eps rvs exhaust, but *with* al three catalysts
- custom air intake with industrial filter
- well maintained car!
- Ron98 BP ultimate in the tank always

Other mods:

- D2 dampers/springs but with eibach springs in the back
- brembo big brake kit(front)
- strutbrace
- Team Dynamics pro race 1.2 17inch rims

Figures are modest compared to alfa standards as two 147GTA's got 240hp and 242 hp. Of wich one was tuned with carbon airintake+chiptuning. And they should have 250hp atleast.
